Roman Bronze Gladiator Brooch 2nd-3rd century AD. A cast plate brooch of an advancing gladiator with broad rectangular shield, gladius in the right hand, deep-brimmed Thracian helmet; pin, pin-lugs and catchplate to the reverse. Property of a Scottish gentleman; acquired in the 1990s. 13 grams, 45 mm (1 3/4″).
