Yellow gold brooch with ancanthus leaves and a fish holding a diamond in its mouth at the center. There are eight small rubies set in white gold along the outer edge.

Roman Silvered Bronze Fibula – Hippocamp & Fish
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful cast bronze fibula (brooch) in the form of a hippocamp or possibly dragon being devoured by a massive fish whose mouth is open wide to encompass all but the head and neck of the other animal. Remains of a silvered surface and possibly some green enamel in the fish’s scales are still visible on the surface. A pin with small square plate for attachment is at the back.
