Art Deco Platinum, Diamond and Sapphire Brooch, Cartier The openwork tapered oval brooch topped by one square-cut sapphire, accented by 3 diamond-shaped sapphires spaced by 2 round sapphires, set throughout with 66 old European and single-cut diamonds approximately 3.05 cts., and 4 rose-cut diamonds, signed Cartier, no. 1399, circa 1920, approximately 4.8 dwts.
Diamonds: H-I-VS-SI. Sapphires: deep vivid royal blue, square-shaped sapphire of bright blue hue, clean, minor table edge abrasions on small round sapphire, not visible to eye, very lively. Good condition. Well-made. 1 x 1 11/16″.

VAN CLEEF & ARPELS – an Art Deco platinum diamond, and gem-set brooch. Designed as a frosted rock crystal square, with vari-cut diamond and calibre-cut sapphire openwork keyhole motif sides. Signed Van Cleef & Arpel Paris, 27055. Estimated total diamond weight 1.10cts, H-I colour, SI1-P1 clarity. French assay marks. Length 5.5cms. Weight 13.8gms.
Diamonds well matched. Diamonds bright. Diamonds have light and dark inclusions. Rock crystal is translucent, with good clarity and typical inclusions. Rock crystal are in good condition with minor abrasion and wear. Sapphires are a well matched medium blue hue, fairly well saturated, with good clarity and typical inclusions some of which are surface reaching. Sapphires are in good condition with minor nibbles to the facet edges, one chipped.
